The name of our journal, The Penelope Review, is inspired by the following excerpt from Milan Kundera’s The Art of the Novel:
Like Penelope, it undoes each night the tapestry that the theologians, philosophers, and learned men have woven the day before.
We seek works of poetry and prose that gently undo the tapestry of tradition rather than tearing it apart. We seek innovative writing that isn’t intoxicated by its innovativeness, but is rather sober, measured, and conscientious. Work where every word is intentional, every line purposeful.
